You can always learn so much more from failure than you can from success.
So why is it that nobody talks about Failure?
In 2008, my business was significantly impacted by the collapse of Woolworths. A National ‘institution’ on the high street, that subsequently failed.
I’ve spent well over 4 years researching, not only the Woolworths collapse, but more than 150 other National Businesses that failed. And the findings were SHOCKING.
I have used this research, combined with my own knowledge and experience, along with case study examples from Businesses I’ve either coached, mentored or in some other way supported over the past 14 years to put together this highly topical and impactful Keynote.

Once I’d correlated all the research, I wanted to understand at what stage of a businesses growth, do the flaws I had identified first form. and when and why do we choose to ignore them?
Having now surveyed well over 100,000 Businesses, I was horrified to learn more than 80% of businesses possess at least one of the three most fundamental flaws we identified. My conclusions to this research showed that whilst we are taught much within our time in School, College, Academies and Universities. VERY few are ever taught HOW to run a progressively growing business!

I loved the definition of what an entrepreneur is, and made me consider if I’m an Entrepreneur or a Business Owner! Jay delivered an amazing keynote speech at the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants conference. The whole room listened to a awe inspiring but very humble account which chartered his journey from “Battlefield to Boardroom”. It was a very engaging presentation, humorous but very thought provoking with lots of great nuggets of information on why focus, drive, planning is important, but also the need to continually survey your surrounding and watch out for those curved balls, catch them, learn from them and move on.
Allen is as motivating on stage and he was motivated to succeed within my Regiment. He has intrinsically linked the success we shared in Bosnia & Kosovo, with the success he is now demonstrating within his own business. Having recently presented his ‘Battlefield2Boardroom’ speech to both Junior Officers & Senior Non-Commissioned Officers as part of a resettlement conference, his understanding and humorous interpretation of transferable and non-transferable skills was the highlight of the entire event – Well done
